What a first year costs, and what has to be shown

Two numbers, not one. What a family will spend, and what has to be sitting in an account before anyone will look at the application. They are different, computed differently in every country, and the second is the one that ends cases.

Has to be shown before the application is looked at

$29,000 - $55,000

A living figure set nationally, usually shown as a GIC, plus first-year tuition. The living figure has risen more than once - check it per intake.

What the first year costs

$26,000 - $57,000

  • Tuition$14,000 - $40,000
  • Living, twelve months$11,000 - $16,000
  • Government fees$0 - $0
  • Health cover$1,000 - $1,000

Per academic year, rounded to the nearest thousand.

How accurate is this

Ranges, rounded to the nearest thousand. Tuition at a Canadian college and a Canadian research university differ by a factor of three, so any figure precise to the dollar would be a guess wearing a suit.

Government figures change, sometimes twice in a year. Canada has raised its living requirement more than once. Check the current amount per intake rather than per year, and treat this as the shape of the answer rather than the answer.

Quoting these numbers to families

Visatory stores the fee schedule you actually published and freezes the sentence each family was shown, so a question about what somebody was quoted three years ago has an answer.
